Wow we really are going around the distilleries of the Diageo Rare Malts Selection aren’t we. First Caol Ila, then Clynelesh and now Dalwhinne.

When you drive on the semi dangerous but mostly frustrating A9 you can see the distillery sitting like it was framed for a painting sitting below the road.

Notice those interesting copper pots on the outside of the building there. That is the key to the interest in that distillery. Worm tubs are mentioned in another one of my articles if you want to read about it but they are part of the distillery spirit character and a traditional feature in the distillation process and one which is rarely used elsewhere now.

Dalwhinne is used a lot in blending but there is a core range of maybe 3 bottles. This 15 year old, a winter one which is rubbish and a Distiller’s edition which I haven’t tried.

Tasting Notes

Where Can I Buy?

Not something you see much of regularly but the usual large online retailers will always have a few cases.

Master of Malt – Dalwhinne 15 Year Old

Final Thoughts

There is no denying this is a good bottle of whisky for under £50 and of the 3 Diageo distilleries from the calendar this is my current fav!
