I definitely don’t want to write this article and only focus on the current branding of a once wonderful Benromach. I certainly don’t want to do that not least because the rebrand was a few years ago now and the comments have been done to death. I don’t want to do any of that.
…and while I might not want to do it. I shall.
Because it really is truly bizarre to go from these classy modern glass bottles with well designed cardboard boxes which incorporated a lid you could display the bottle in.
To this brutish, forgettable and formulaic
It’s all really rather awful.
Anyway, I feel better now. As for the whisky well it’s still really rather brilliant, as it’s always been. The Contrasts series is a limited release collection of bottles which showcases different aspects of the whisky making process. Quite a few distilleries are trying this kind of technique. Lindores Abbey was the last distillery which did a similar thing a few weeks back if you remember.
This organic version is a 9 year old whisky using organic barley peated to 55ppm and matured in first fill sherry barrels.
Tasting Notes
Colour – light yellow
Nose – crisp apples and dark chocolate,
Palate – sweet and jammy but still tart and acidic like you would get from a raspberry or grapefruit
Finish – gingerbread and a medium length finish
Final Thoughts
For all my endless going on about it. Don’t let terrible overpriced marketing stop you buying good whisky. Benromach is and always was a good bet and nothing has changed.
