Back to the Lindores tasting on Twitter with a Bourbon matured whisky at nearly 50% ABV.

The “Casks of Lindores” series is an interesting and ongoing range of whiskies from Lindores which focuses on a single maturation type in each bottle. This version and the other Lindores which I am still to write up are from the second batch from the series which was released in 2023.

Why do I think this is so interesting? Well two reasons really. The first is purely obsessive as a whisky person. As I have said in a lot of articles over the years it’s important to remember a single malt is not a single cask. Most bottles of single malt are recipes where the ingredients are a selection of different barrels which contain whisky of different ages and the previous contents of the barrels will also be a collection of different things. The aim is to create a mixture which is greater than the sum of its parts. Therefore, by calling out this bottle is only Bourbon barrels we are singling out a single flavour profile and then when you look at the red wine one you are highlighting another.

The second reason is just a nod to the clever business sense of creating a series where most people will want to buy all of them and compare side by side. Why sell one bottle when you can sell many. Everyone wins though really.

Colour – almost clear

Nose – oh its wonderful. pear drops and apples with a touch of airfix glue. There is also a nice little darker note of more like apple core and honey.

Palate – cracks of black pepper, lashings of caramel and apple skins.

Finish – Super fruity. There is a fruit based fizzy pop called Rubicon made by Barrs who also make Irn-Bru. Its exactly that kind of fructose sweet coupled of citric acidity
