You know what I have been doing too much of recently. Talking about single malts.
I think it is too easy to forget that single malt Scotch is a relatively small part of the market. The Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) would be at pains to remind us all blended whisky is where all the market share is and where properly vast amounts of mature whisky ends up.
So I think I need to be more balanced on the kind of things I talk about. Of course, though given how I liked those jazzy peated Rum casks in the Lindores bottle I couldn’t just go ordinary here. I am trying here give me a break.
Dewer’s Caribbean Smooth is a Rum cask finished blended whisky which is aged a minimum of 8 years.
8 year old blended Scotch Whisky, Doubled aged and finished in Caribbean Rum Casks for extra Smoothness.
Back of bottle
– Tropical Fruits, Brown Sugar, Caramel
Nose – Chemical synthetic and lots of dark sugar but really I am working overtime here to get much out of the glass
Palate – toasted bread and quite a lot of tropical fruit notes around some barley sugar and more of those synthetic notes.
Finish – quite a hot chilli heat that can outrun its min whisky strength

Final Thoughts
I wish I could be more interesting but while I hoped for the best its fine I guess. The price is good but the amount of young grain whisky unbalancing the flavour profile is just too much for me. Would work as a cocktail but not on its own.
