You would be forgiven for never having heard of KinGlassie whisky. The fife based distillery is named InchDairnie and if you are into your Scottish whisky you might have heard of this innovative and protective distillery.
The Distillery and Brand
KinGlassie is called that and not InchDairnie because its the peated version of the whisky from the distillery. Produced for only 1 week a year this is the rarer version of the spirit from the distillery.
The distillery is itself pretty interesting and well pretty…pretty.

The Whisky
The 2017 vintage is matured for 8 years in total with an initial period in refill bourbon casks (5 years) and then a final finish in Amontillado sherry casks (remaining 3 years). The peat in this release was from St Fergus in Aberdeenshire right in the very north east of the mainland.
Bottled at 46.3% with natural colour and unchillfiltered you can pick up bottles from a lot of specialist retailers for just under £80
Tasting Notes
| Colour | dark yellow |
| Nose | Ginger, forest floor, nettles, furniture polish and air freshener Toast and butter |
| Palate | Tobacco smoke, almond, almond cake with a splash sherry. Black coffee and high cocoa dark chocolate |
| Finish | Lots of smoke in the finish with vanilla and toffee. The peat is very rich and vegetal in nature. Definitely something for an Islay lover |

Final Thoughts
Reminds me a lot of the very good Lochlea distillery with its good quality whisky. I would say I think Lochlea is better value but this is good quality, young whisky.
I am really enjoying exploring Rye whisky just now and especially Scottish Rye. Therefore, I am pretty interesting in trying out their Ryelaw release but at over £100 is a lot which is 53% Rye and 47% malted barley. Check that out as well if you like the sound of it.
