What an amazing name for a bottle of whisky. The Copperopolis name comes from Swansea in the 18th century where 50% of the world’s copper came from the city which was 90% of the UK’s manufacturing ability. The Icon’s of Wales series is a long running (this bottle is the 12th in the series) of limited editions referencing Welsh social history.

The latest release is actually the 13th one but you can look at that and all the other releases directly on the Penderyn website.

This is also a good resource to checkout the different branding styles of Wales only operating whisky distillery. That though is a bit of a misleading statement because actually Penderyn whisky isn’t from 1 distillery but 3 all owned by the same company. The Visit Us page on the website lays out where each is and what makes each a unique visit. New visit page – Penderyn

I’ve had an up and down relationship with this distillery but my current favourite has been Penderyn 7 Year Old 2012 Single Cask which was pretty excellent.

The Whisky

The whisky itself is a red wine finished whisky without an age statement. Bottled without colouring or chill filtering like all from this distillery. At £67 or so its a good price for a limited run whisky as well.

Final Thoughts

Cool Story, nice limited series and an interesting set of distilleries producing whisky at a reasonable price. What more could you want?
