It’s definitely getting close to Christmas when the Lagavulin is getting opened up. I have been looking forward to opening this all day so I hope it doesn’t disappoint. A week before Christmas and the last thing you want is to be disappointed. Well the absolute last thing you want is to have forgotten/lost a present for someone but this is a close second I’d say.
I do have a bottle from when this 8 year old 200 Anniversary Edition bottle came out. It was a roaring sales success and eventually a core release bottle was introduced. I have never opened my 200 Edition bottle and been meaning to open it so this might decide if it becomes a New Year Opener or not.
The current bottle is available for under £60 or about £12 less than the 16 year old everyone has heard of and most people are bored of now. The 8 year old is billed as being closer to the 19th Century version of the 8 year old and being younger having more of a youthful vibrant peaty character.
Tasting Notes
| Colour | Almost Clear |
| Nose | Plums, saline, ashy smoke, charred wood, dark notes of tar and baculite |
| Palate | Spirit led and very similar to the nose notes. with smoked fish and marzipan |
| Finish | A Short finish but the lingering note is a charred lemon rind note Burnt pastry and toast, a little tart apple |
Where Can I Buy?
Master of Malt – Lagavulin 8 Year Old
Final Thoughts
I loved this whisky, peated whisky is just soo good at a younger age. I actually think I prefer this to the much more expensive Special Release 12 year olds at Cask Strength
