I think this is the second Wemyss Family bottle and I didn’t like the Gorse one very much. Hopefully this one is better.

This is billed as a blended malt release but more specifically its actually a blend of whisky from only two distilleries. Both in the Highlands area of Scotland and 6000 bottles generated from 15 first fill ex-bourbon barrels and 2 recharred barrels.

The master of malt website says one of the distilleries is actually an Islay but that is the only place to say that. The Wemyss website just says two highland area distilleries. Which might not be the same as saying Highland Region to be fair.

Tasting Notes

Colouralmost clear
Nosechalk minerals and a freshness. Lemon juice but not the zest. Pine needles from a Christmas tree (Always remember to water yours)
Palatecharred toast, burning wood logs on a forest fire. salted butter
FinishMedium length of finish

More saline notes, toasted sourdough bread, lemon curd and vanilla essence

Where Can I Buy?

This is another bottle which is hard to find being such an old release most of the bottles are gone. Master of Malt still have a few cases though for a mere £40.

Final Thoughts

A good price, nicely made whisky and better than that Gorse one from earlier in the month.
