oh now this is interesting. The first advent calendar I did when I was still pretty green at this blogging business had this Dalmore as the pick of the whole deal. I wonder if all these years later it still stacks up.
To check out the first version of this article from way back when (2016?!, that’s pre covid, pre meeting my wife even!), go to: Dalmore 15 Year Old
I wrote a good amount of detail on Dalmore and the whisky back then so I won’t repeat myself again. The price is the big different here: over £100 for a 40% ABV whisky is a special kind of cocky pricing. Even the Drinks by the Dram sample is over £10 for 3cl.
There is a reason you don’t see Dalmore on the shelf regularly in your Indi bottle shop. It just doesn’t sell to your average bunter on the street
Tasting Notes
| Colour | Fake tan |
| Nose | A damp hallway and muddy boots. New leather belts, Choc eclair sweets (RIP), Pepper and anise |
| Palate | A hollow middle which is missing something which some more ABV’s could have fixed. Actually lacking in flavour quite a lot. Lets try that again Orange sherries notes but very subtle and watered out |
| Finish | Very quick finish. Blink and you missed it. |

Master of Malt – Dalmore 15 Year Old
Final Thoughts
It’s not my favourite anymore and the experience of the last few years has shown there is more quality to be found elsewhere. This is still a good gifting bottle though lots of people would be over the moon to get a bottle from a well respected premium distillery in a nice bottle with a lovely special feeling cardboard box. The whisky is approachable and will change and develop in the bottle as well I’d expect.
For me though, I won’t now be going out to find a full size bottle for the cupboard. I’d rather find the Oxford 3 year old Rye actually
