Wemyss is a great family owned independent bottler and distillery owner. The current owners of Kingsbarns distillery which do make some nice lowland style whisky they also have a gin distillery and a portfolio of single casks, small batch blended malts and ongoing core ranges of blended malts.
In my head I categorize Wemyss as like what Berry Bros & Rudd are to wine. I haven’t had a bad single cask from them and the distillery experience at Kingsbarns was lovely as well.
The Whisky
Getting right in to it then. This is a blended malt containing barrels from 2 different distilleries. There is 15 first fill ex-bourbon and then a handful of refill barrels as well. This particular product looks to have been released in 2019 and I guess this isn’t from the same batch. However, on looking at the Wemyss website they are selling bottles for as little as £30 a bottle which is a lot less than anywhere else. So maybe they have just struggled to shift the stock.
Tasting Notes
| Colour | yellow |
| Nose | fresh like a winters morning, sweet vanilla, a little touch of white pepper and sugar puff cereal |
| Palate | coconut, barley sugars more pepper |
| Finish | tiny hint of caramel sauce on vanilla ice-cream. A short finish overall |

Final Thoughts
This is one of the best for far in this first week. Overall, its a bit of a slow start, hopefully things get more interesting through the month.
