Each of these Calendars follow a similar pattern and Day 1 tends to be a good premium option. Aberlour 16 fits the bill for that perfectly.
The Whisky
Aberlour can and do make some excellent bottles. This 16 year old is similar in concept to the 12 year old. Bourbon and Sherry maturation combined into a release which is pretty standard by the book whisky making. Bottled now at 40% feels a bit cheap which is ironic because this is now going to set you back nearly £120.
I have reviewed this 16 year old back in 2017 and when it was at 43% ABV. Aberlour 16 Year Old shows very similar notes to the below and a similar final thought section. I was more forgiving than at £50 a bottle. This is beyond madness to see this kind of price jump in 8 years.
Tasting Notes
| Colour | Orange |
| Nose | Raisins and sultanas with nuts and some pepper |
| Palate | 40% ABV does mean it has a watered down approach. think of your most stereotypical sherry matured whisky and then you have the notes for this |
| Finish | Short and to the point. Touch of sherry, touch of bitter. done |
Where can I buy it?
Master of Malt – Aberlour 16 Year Old
Final Thoughts
Real Talk. This is a good solid single malt with sherry casks. It drinks as a £70 bottle though and not approaching nearly twice that.
