I love an Island whisky. I love visiting their distilleries and talking to the people who work there. I just love the social history and the distinctive character of the distilleries on these Islands.
There is one exception though, one which I have always struggled with and avoided. The one distillery is Tobermory on the Isle of Mull which product unpeated Tobermory and peated Ledaig. There is a blue cheese note coming from the fermentation which I am just not sophisticated enough to appreciate.
Anyway, the third single cask in my gift set from Mrs Malted includes a 15 year old cask from Tobermory so I am out of excuses. I have to try it.
The 15 year old is from a refill butt (going to me lots of spirit character, oh no) distilled in 2008 and bottled in 2024. The ABV is a reasonable 56.6% ABV. Of the 304 bottles produced there is still some available online for £85 a bottle which is very good for a 15 year old whisky.

Final Thoughts
Maybe I am growing up or maybe this is just a really good example from the distillery but damn this is good. Weird, complex, original sure but also…good.
