With my price conscious head on I have been buying more and more of these retailer brands which try to marry quality and value for money. The Seaweed& range is a Master of Malt own brand which has been around now for a good few years. The kind of Cards of Humanity style brands exist in a few sub categories but the first one was the Islay ones which I have here. There is a grain one and a few others which might have been discontinued now.
These are all unnamed distillery single malts, some with age statements and some without. Some include a cask type and some do not. I would imagine even some batches of the same bottle will use different distilleries from Islay as well just on what stock they can find and bottle.
This bottle I have was bought maybe 3 or 4 years ago and is a 10 year old sherry cask matured Islay single malt. I like these bottles because they are simple and easy drinking which means you can relax with them. They don’t challenge or pressure you into finishing them. The 40% ABV keeps the costs down and broadens the flavour profile. This is still quite an expensive bottle at around £55, I am sure I wouldn’t have paid much over £40 at the time though because £55 feels spendy to me now.
Tasting Notes
| Colour | Pale |
| Nose | well mixed sweet desert grape notes mixed with some swirling smoky notes. A very well balanced whisky this |
| Palate | Clean and straight prominent peat but not dominating the toffee and syrupy fruit notes |
| Finish | An interest dram this in so far as the nose, palate and finish are very symmetrical. A balance of alcohol soaked fruits and peat smoke |
Where Can I Buy?
Being a Master of Malt own brand (Atom Brands) this is only available at their website.

Final Thoughts
I like the branding, I like the bottle and I like the whisky. Life doesn’t have to be complicated so why add to your problems by buying the most expensive or exclusive or in demand bottle. Just buy good stuff and drink it.
