After another long long break I am back – interested and invested in whisky again.

I was doing really well for a good while getting 3 posts a week out. I don’t really know how I ended up taking a break but it’s probably a collection of things. I thought before I got back into whisky posts I would open a sample (more of that later this week) and dig into what changed and why I found the motivation to write again.

Life gets in the way

An obvious and simple one to start with. Work has been busy and intense with lots of new things to learn and challenges to strip away my sparetime. Family, kids and just the usual stuff that you gotta do just to keep the wheels on the bus doesn’t help either.

Unless, you are really into writing and getting enjoyment from it. There just isn’t any point.

Things are just so…boring now

Which brings me onto the next point. I starting writing this blog in 2016 and rightly the whisky scene has changed. When I first started reading blogs and following people on Twitter there was an active scene with lots of interesting articles, new releases and energy in the sector. Somewhere along the line that has stopped. Twitter isn’t as active as it once was and the new bottles are slowing with most aimed at collectors with deep pockets outside of the UK. Its a commonly agreed opinion of economic reality now that selling whisky made in Scotland to Scottish people will glean far less profit than excluded it half way around the world.

Change is coming

So if there is nothing left to talk about then why keep writing?

Well actually I think things might be changing.

Prices are starting to unwind, retailers and distillery businesses are starting to pickup market slowdowns which are signalling disposable income is being smaller and luxury expenditure is stopping. So many people now have whisky lakes in their cupboards nevermind in bonded warehouses. Those storing as investments are beginning to dump their portfolios at auction and some nice bottles are appearing at drinkable prices again.

All of which is to say, the future for the whisky drinker is starting to return. Long may that continue.

One response to “Did you miss me? 10 year Anniversary Post”

  1. I’m one of those whiskey drinkers currently adding to the woes of the industry by not buying new bottles until the whiskey lake in my cupboard is reduced.
It’s down to around 30 from a peak of 100.
