The last sample in the Tullibardine TweetTasting was one I haven’t tried before from the distillery or elsewhere. The 500 Sherry cask is a Tullibardine core range bottle which is finished in a 500litre Sherry Butt.
For reference, there is a range of cask sizes which can be used for whisky maturation and other wines and spirits for that matter since almost all whisky casks are originally used for something else.

The Whisky
Taking on 12 months of finishing time in the Sherry butt will have imparted a lot of flavour into the whisky. A whisky which incidentally is readily picked up in the “nicer” supermarkets like Sainsburys alongside the usual suspects. Expect to pay under £50 but not a have much change for that crisp note.
Tasting Notes
Colour – Creamy yellow
Nose – wood spices, clove and pepper, brown sugar
Palate – Light, bright and fruity Sherry influence, more clove and pepper
Finish – Long finish, holds on to the Tullibardine house style of a peppery and cinnamoned whisky
Final Thoughts
A really nice whisky and the highlight for me. I expected the red wine cask to be my favourite but like I said after the distillery visit last year it doesn’t quite hit all the right notes for me. To go back and look at that one check out Tullibardine 228 Burgundy Finish
