I’ve tried the Sovereign a few times before. Not least at the distillery itself. This review though is based on my experience during a Tulli Flight of the Sovereign, 225 Sauternes, 228 Burgundy and 500 Sherry. The pack was sent to me free as part of a Twitter marketing event.

The pack itself is a standard retail pack and comes in strong cardboard with magnetic closing mechanism which makes for a great gift set at Christmas
The Whisky
This single malt is available on offer generally for high 30’s or low £40. Aged for somewhere around half a decade they use first-fill ex-bourbon barrels to get good flavour in quickly.
Tasting Notes
Colour – light straw
Nose – Light and creamy. Buttery even. Vanilla pods and maybe some clove?
Palate – Lightly toasted but heavily buttered toast. Gingerbread, few cracks of pepper and a vanilla pod
Finish – short finish but fizzes with some oak wood spice
Final Thoughts
This is a whisky which falls into the category of being supermarket wares which is easy to overlook on being “just” the NAS entry level model. The rental Clio spec at Lagos airport if you will. You would be wrong though it’s a genuine whisky in its own right.
