I think I might be boring myself with my Macaloney intro’s at this point.
I think we have said enough about Macaloney at this point but I will remind you all that if you want to explore Canadian whisky there is many many worse places to go than here. Especially if you live in Canada and want a Scotch style whisky but your government won’t let imports easily Macaloney has you covered for sure.
The Whisky
In what seems to be becoming a pattern this peated whisky is a mixture of ex-bourbon barrels with some virgin American wood and red wine barrels from Portugal. We have seen an awful lot of Portuguese wine in these Monday sessions haven’t we?
The whisky is bottled at 46% ABV and natural colour without the use of aggressive chill filtering.
Tasting Notes
Colour – slightly slightly off yellow into the red hue
Nose – immediate woody and dry charred with some red fruit notes to match
Palate – wood spices are toasting on open fires before BBQ’ing meat
Finish – medium length finish bringing together the fruitier notes from the nose and the richer toasted notes from the palate
Final Thoughts
A nice whisky but perhaps actually for all these releases there is actual very little variation of what they offer. I guess the takeaway should be that yes by all means pick up a bottle but don’t worry overly about which you can find.
