With the last week’s knocking off all the mini’s in the first pack we have started a second pack which focuses almost entirely on the peaty side of things. Straight off the bat as well is a single cask release eh which is also not peated. Just to confuse us

This is going to be very similar to the last single cask we have because its the same type of wood used….STR red wine cask from Portugal again.

This is not a bad thing from me.

The price for this bottle or realistically something similar is around the £60 ish mark. It’s a single cask but not cask strength as they are all still 46% ABV.

Tasting Notes

Colour – Marmalade

Nose – very restrained, spirit led over cask influence. nettle soup, minerally and when you really concentrate in a sour orange juice raspberry compote

Palate – clean texture, strawberry lipbalm, buttered toast and more of that rocky minerality

Finish – cask influence arrives at the end of the journey interestingly with a hint of oak tannin mixed with leather and old books

Final Thoughts

About as far removed from the other single cask as you can get. Same cask but very different taste. This time the showpiece is the spirit and its a lovely rich but well mannered spirit character. I know whisky from Canada doesn’t register to most people and a certain whisky of the year book ruined the category for some but I really do think Macaloney’s needs to be tried by everyone even just once.
