Another week another Macaloney’s review 😀
I must admit a single cask is always the one I am interested in getting to. This time it is a STR’d red wine cask from Portugal that is the maturation vessel. The Kirkinriola series is an ongoing collection of single casks all from Irish style triple distilling in pot stills. There is a few single casks available at the moment from Master of Malt and they are all 61 pounds which is good value for single casks at the moment. Indeed, its cheaper than the ongoing releases.
Tasting Notes
Colour – rich orangey red hue
Nose – thick and viscous. rich and priming with ripe fruit. tobacco leaves
Palate – palate follows the nose and backs a major punch. certainly a lot of cask influence. fruit jam and toast
Finish – drying finish on the back of tobacco and a foosty room note
Final Thoughts
It’s a blunt instrument for sure but it was very nice. Rich and vibrant red wine cask notes for a good price. I would really enjoy a bottle of this.
Red wine critics need not apply however
