I am away on business as I sit here. I have the tv on in the background after a very long day of meetings and team building exercises so with my iPad balanced on my lap I am going to write out some articles. I took a few Whisky-Me samples with me so without distraction I should make some decent content I hope.
Also incidentally with my regular publishing schedule this year of articles every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning I am eventually getting some good daily page views. I am hoping to get back to where I was a couple of years back but today has been a really good jump in making that progress.
The Distillery
Torabhaig is the “other” distillery on Skye. A distillery built out of a farm has been producing whisky since 2017 and this Allt Glenn is the second product from the new facility.
The distillery is owned by Mossburn Distillers which in turn is owned by Marussia beverages. The story of the farmhouse and idea of a farm distillery though is older than the current owners who opened it. Planning permission was gained by 2002 and wasn’t realized by the death of the owner Sir Ian Noble who moved to the island in 1972 and died in 2010.
The Whisky
Allt Gleann is the second release from the distillery and doesn’t carry an age statement. Bottled at 46% ABV it contains spirit from 2017(the year the distillery opened) and 2018.
A peaty whisky which stamps the house style of the distillery with natural color and non chill filtered. This whisky is available for around 50 pounds in the UK. This seems to be the starting price for newer whiskies at the moment. It wasn’t too many years ago where the entry point would be 35 but 50 is the new 35 I am sure some of you will be pleased to know.
Tasting Notes
Color – light light yellow
Nose – saline, tinderbox dry wood and caramalised banana’s
Palate – lemon zest, cinnamon french toast, McDonald’s caramel McFlurry
Finish – quite a short finish but its sweet ending on toasted fruits over a fire.
Final Thoughts
I sat down to this not expecting much and really want to drive the point home that I genuinely really really liked this. It’s young whisky sure but done very well. Worth the money in my book.
